Bali is not short of beaches, but Waterblow at Nusa Dua offers something different. Narrow limestone formations funnel the swell of the Indian Ocean into a gap in the cliff, and the water bursts several metres into the air. It is loud, unpredictable and one of the best places on the island for dramatic seascape photography.
The site sits inside the ITDC Nusa Dua complex, about a 40 minute drive from Natya Hotel Kuta. Taxis and ride-hailing services make it an easy half-day trip. Beyond the wave show itself, a coastal walkway runs along the cliff with panoramic ocean views, and the white sand beaches of Nusa Dua are a short stroll away.
Come between two and five in the afternoon, when the waves have strength and the light is at its best. The dry season from April to October brings the biggest swells. Wear light clothes you do not mind getting wet, bring a hat and sunscreen, and keep a safe distance from the edge — the waves are genuinely unpredictable.
Back in Kuta, Natya Hotel Kuta puts you within walking distance of the beach and the shopping centres, and within easy reach of the whole south of the island.
